The Snatch

The Olympic lifts train athletes to effectively activate more muscle fibers more rapidly than through any other modality of training. The explosiveness that results from this training is of vital necessity to every sport. Practicing the snatch teaches one to apply force to muscle groups in proper sequence — i.e., from the center of the body to its extremities (core to extremity). Learning this vital technical lesson benefits all athletes who need to impart force to another person or object, as is commonly required in nearly all sports.

Another spicy one.  Tried to blast through the snatches and recover a bit on the rows.  Went 15-6 / 10-5 / 9, right on the redline for squat snatches.  Row pace was slow, maybe 2:00 until the last one, where I went full send.

45lb hang squat snatches (dip to just above the floor)

Messed up C2* and started over after 21/42. So I actually did 66 snatch/132 cal, in 19~20 mins of work +4mins rest.

*Who knew that when you "Re-row" last week's 42-30-18 cal, which had untimed rest, it awards the scored previous rest time (not untimed)!!

Globo wod: If you are using iron plates today do hang squat snatches. Dumbbells sub fkr squat snatches are alternating dumbbell squat snatch 30-20-10 reps 35/25 lb dumbbell. Scale as necessary here for good touch and go reps. Rowing subs are 36-24-12 calories assault or echo bike, 400/300/200m run, or 21-15-9 each of burpees and sumo deadlift high pulls using the same barbell or dumbbells as the squat snatches.

Champions Club Scaling Notes


RANT

I've been slacking on the rants lately, but I think it's due for another reminder that I find it helpful to use the grid two steps below to determine how to scale a workout - regardless of fitness level, everyone would benefit from scaling. So find out where this one sits for the intended audience (ie. fittest people on earth). Then see where it would sit for you. To scale, simply determine what is the limiting factor between where you are and where the workout is designed to be, and use the 10 general skills to shade it. The specific scales I include after the grid are what I think would be the most common limiting factors. Also, poor damn Nebraska fans... if only you wouldn't insist on claiming a National Championship in 1997, you wouldn't have been doomed to this intolerable purgatory.


WORKOUT THEMES

Monostructural and weightlifting. Jumping with a lot of range of motion, squatting with an upright torso, using fatigue to challenge our Oly lifting. Although, I'm probably overthinking it; it's really just a signature CrossFit couplet of mixed modalities that combine for a very unpleasant time.
